Great Lakes Center joins more than 60 organizations to support Teach to Lead

EAST LANSING, Mich. (Feb. 5, 2015) – The Great Lakes Center for Education Research and Practice has joined more than 60 organizations that have signed on to the Teach to Lead initiative as supporters in the effort to advance student learning by expanding opportunities for teacher leadership. Teach to Lead is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of Education and the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards focused on expanding opportunities for teacher leadership in ways that enhance student learning and make it possible for teachers to stay in the classroom while leading in the profession.

Each supporting organization has pledged to help engage the field and their members in various ways, including through social media, summits, training, policy work, and advocacy opportunities for future teacher leaders.

Teach to Lead has hosted regional Teacher Leadership Summits in Louisville, Denver, and Boston with the hope of bringing together educators from multiple states to spur meaningful commitments to teacher leadership.

Daniel Quinn, executive director of the Great Lakes Center and a teacher leader, said, "We are proud to support the Teach to Lead movement, ensuring that teacher leaders can take their place at the forefront of the national effort to reshape public education and enable all students to achieve at their highest potential."
